Upcoming Instructor Workshops
People become MCRGO CPL Instructors for a variety of reasons. Assisting others in obtaining their concealed pistol license is perhaps the most important thing you can do to defend self defense rights in our state. About 70% of our instructors transition to MCRGO from a national agency. MCRGO’s instructor program is developed by instructors and is designed to make teaching students as simple as possible. Program administrators are easily accessible to instructors with fast, personal replies to questions and suggestions. MCRGO’s program is Michigan specific and is focused on carry outside the home.
There is no cost to apply to become a MCRGO instructor. The fee to register for an instructor workshop varies with the workshop and pays for compensation to the trainer, materials, venue rental, and MCRGO’s liability insurance. You should seek price information from the contact listed underneath the upcoming scheduled workshops listed below. Certification is valid for two years. Online renewal after two years is $25. There is no need to order materials from MCRGO. Instructors pay $10 per student which includes access to student certificates, all training materials, and a 1-year membership for the student. It also includes access to a video to teach the legal portion of the class.
Before a MCRGO instructor candidate may attend an instructor workshop, they must first apply to MCRGO, become an approved instructor candidate, and then pay the workshop registration fee to the Master Instructor teaching the workshop. Only approved instructor candidates may register for workshops. Registration should occur no later than one week prior to a workshop. Instructor candidates who are not current NRA PPIH instructors, current USCCA instructors, have other 425J qualifying training approved by MCRGO Operations Committee, or who do not hold State Bar, MCOLES credentials, or other accepted current law enforcement credentials (federal/tribal) first need to take a MCRGO CPL course from any MCRGO instructor and provide proof of certification to the MCRGO Executive Director before registering for an instructor workshop (that may occur following application). Instructor candidates taking a combined 3-day MCRGO CPL course and instructor workshop do not need to provide proof of certification in advance.
Instructor candidates must hold a current Michigan Concealed Pistol License unless exempted under MCL 28.432a Sec. 12a (a) and providing current department ID as a substitute. Instructor candidates also must be current members of MCRGO.
Registration for all workshops is done with the contact listed below. Instructors are responsible for providing their own transportation and lodging and for bringing necessary ammo and materials. This includes a primary carry firearm of 9mm/.38 or larger caliber and 100 rounds of ammo.
MCRGO’s CPL Program is managed digitally. MCRGO instructors are expected to have a basic understanding of computers including an e-mail address, the ability to download and display a PowerPoint presentation and video, and acceptance of PayPal as an online payment system. All communication with MCRGO regarding the training program is by e-mail.

Note: All MCRGO instructor applicants must be current members of MCRGO and must have held a Michigan CPL for at least a year preceding the date of application. Do not submit a MCRGO instructor application if you are not currently a MCRGO member or were issued a Michigan CPL less than a year from the date of application. All applications must come directly from the person applying rather than a third party. The e-mail on the application must match the e-mail address the application is sent from.
